Testing of quantum phase in matter wave optics

چکیده
Various phase concepts may be treated as special cases of the maximum likelihood estimation. For example the discrete Fourier estimation that actually coincides with the operational phase of Noh, Fougères and Mandel is obtained for continuous Gaussian signals with phase modulated mean. Since signals in quantum theory are discrete, a prediction different from that given by the Gaussian hypothesis should be obtained as the best fit assuming a discrete Poissonian statistics of the signal. Although the Gaussian estimation gives a satisfactory approximation for fitting the phase distribution of almost any state the optimal phase estimation offers in certain cases a measurable better performance. This has been demonstrated in neutron–optical experiment.

Stochastic Optimization of Bose-Einstein Condensation Using a Genetic Algorithm
In 1924/25, Satyendranath Bose and Albert Einstein predicted that particles of integer spin (today called bosons) should undergo a quantum statistical phase transition when cooled to temperatures very close to absolute zero (Bose, 1924; Einstein, 1925). This phenomenon, nowadays called Bose-Einstein condensation, has been experimentally observed seventy years later using ultracold (nanokelvin t...
متن کاملLongitudinal Atom Optics : Measuring the Density Matrix of a Matter Wave Beam by Richard Alan Rubenstein
This thesis describes recent developments of theoretical and experimental techniques for longitudinal atom optics and interferometry, in which time-dependent interactions are used to create coherences in the longitudinal momentum of a matter wave. We present a fully quantum mechanical treatment of the classic molecular beams resonance experiment, a beam of two state particles interacting with t...
متن کاملLinear and Nonlinear Dust Acoustic Waves in Quantum Dusty Electron-Positron-Ion Plasma
The behavior of linear and nonlinear dust acoustic waves (DAWs) in an unmagnetized plasma including inertialess electrons and positrons, ions, and mobile positive/negative dust grains are studied. Reductive perturbation method is employed for small and finite amplitude DAWs. To investigate the solitary waves, the Korteweg–de Vries (KdV) equation is derived and the solution is presented. B...
متن کاملQuantization of electromagnetic fields in the presence of a spherical semiconductor quantum dot and spontaneous decay of an excited atom doped in this nanostructure
In this paper we consider electromagnetic field quantization in the presence of a dispersive and absorbing semiconductor quantum dot. By using macroscopic approach and Green's function method, quantization of electromagnetic field is investigated. Interaction of a two-level atom , which is doped in a semiconductor quantum dot, with the quantized field is considered and its spontaneous emission ...
متن کاملOn Einstein’s Program and Quantum Theory
The Einstein’s program forms a consistent system for universe description, beside the standard model of particles. It is founded upon a scalar field propagating at speed of light c, which constitutes a common relativist framework for classical and quantum properties of matter and interactions. Matter corresponds to standing waves. Classical domain corresponds to geometrical optics approximation...
